Waterloo Bridge (FINALLY) to be Released on DVD!!

Exciting news!

Waterloo Bridge (1940), one of the unsung classics of the WWII era will finally be released on DVD by Warner Bros. here in the US in January, 2009. The film, starring Vivien Leigh as a ballerina who resorts to prostitution following news of her fiancee’s death on the front lines during WWI, and Robert Taylor as the dashing Roy Cronin, has remained an elusive gem that has been much sought after by Leigh and Taylor fans alike.

The new DVD edition will be released January 27th for $19.97. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any special features included :(

Thanks to Sybille for the heads up!

  6. We’ll call it MUSTACHE CITY ** HIGH FIVE**
(okay I’m done with obnoxious posting)

  7. I don’t think that’s how you spell mustache… okay I’m really done now :)

  8. i WISH Clark gable made an appearance! Robert Taylor’s mustache appears quite frequently though, and it’s ridiculous!

  9. I’ll take what I can get as long as it comes with wine and cheese and a knitting extravaganza!

  10. Vivien Leigh was the most beautiful woman to appear in black and white.
If you are a serious collector like myself you need to see this film. It still can be found on VHS!!!!
I recently had the pleasure of finding this movie. I will say after seeing this film, although disheartening it was the finest acting job I have seen Vivien Leigh do. Gone with the Wind, does not compare. The eyes, the facial expressions…now that was real acting.
    Thanks for the update.

  11. Jeff–you’re right, Waterloo bridge is a wonderful film and a must-see for Vivien fans!
